Hey y'all and welcome back to TX Homeschool Mama with Ms. Raychal. Joaquin and I decided to make some typical dishes for Hispanic Heritage Month. Here's a recipe of Pan de Muerto or Hojaldra that is a typical Mexican bread enjoyed on Día de los Muertos. Enjoy and please check out and share our other videos as well.
Recipe:
Ingredients:
1/2 cup sugar
2 packets of active yeast
1 tsp of salt
1 tsp of cinnamon
1 tsp of orange zest
5 1/2 cups of flour (divided)
1/2 cup of milk
1/2 cup of water
1/2 cup of butter
4 eggs
Steps:
1. Combine the first 5 dry ingredients plus 1 1/2 cups of flour in a large bowl.
2. In a small sauce pan, stir the milk, water, and butter over medium heat until all the butter is melted. Then add the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients after letting slightly cool.
3. Add in the eggs and mix until combined.
4. Add in the remaining 4 cups of flour until all is combined.
5. Add flour to work surface and start kneading the dough a bit.
6. Grease a bowl lightly, set dough inside to rise for an hour and a half.
7. Once the dough has at least doubled in size, take it out, knead it and begin dividing into 4 sections. Then divide those again, and once more. You should have enough for 12 rolls and some left to make the bones and the skulls.
8. Roll small bone shaped pieces and make the shape of an x overtop of each roll.
9. Add a small ball on top of the x shape.
10. Bake for 15-18 minutes on 350* F
11.While baking, make the simple glaze with 1/2 cup sugar and 1/3 cup orange juice. Heat on low for a couple of minutes until it thickens.
12. Take bread out of oven and glaze while still warm.
Enjoy y'all!
