Welcome to Susanna Foo Home Cooking. I only use the freshest and the best ingredients on the market. Today I will make the Honey Walnuts dish.
Honey Walnuts
Ingredients:
1 lb whole walnut halves
½ cup sugar
1 cup water
2 tbs olive oil
Directions:
1) Wash and rinse walnut in water and drain
2) Fill a large pot with water, add walnuts and bring to a boil. Cook for 7 minutes. The water will turn brown. Then strain through a large strainer.
3) Fill the pot with water again and add the walnuts for another 5 minutes. Stain and rinse the walnuts under cold water until the water runs clear.
4) Let the walnuts dry out for about 30 minutes in the strainer.
5) Add sugar and 1 cup water to the same large pot and bring to a boil until the sugar has dissolved.
6) Add the walnuts and turn the heat down to medium and simmer while stirring continuously until the sugar water has coated the walnuts, about 5 minutes.
7) Strain out the walnuts and discard the leftover sugar water and let the walnuts dry out in the strainer for 2 hours.
8) In a bowl mix, the sugar walnuts with olive oil Spread evenly on a large nonstick baking sheet.
9) Heat the oven to 325°. Place walnuts on a nonstick baking sheet. Roast for 20-25 minutes. Walnuts should be crispy with a light brownish color. Let them cool and store in an airtight container.
