The magnificent edifice Castello di Rivoli, once a 13th-century fortress, underwent a remarkable transformation into a contemporary art museum in 1984.

During my first visit to the museum in 2019, Hito Steyerl's exhibition "The City of Broken Windows" left a lasting impression on me. Carolyn Christov-Bakargiev, known for her curatorial vision and exceptional exhibitions, was the museum director at that time (2016-2023). Francesco Manacorda assumed the role in 2024, and since then, I noticed a shift in the museum's exhibition style.

There are two collections at different locations. If you're planning to visit, it is best to prioritize:
1. Permanent collection at main building / Castello di Rivoli
2. Exhibitions at main building / Castello di Rivoli

If time permits, you can then proceed with:
3. A tour of the Cerruti Collection at Villa Cerruti, which requires a 10-minute shuttle bus ride. Note that this tour must be reserved in advance and is conducted exclusively in Italian, typically lasting at least an hour.

Keep in mind that buses are less frequent closer to closing time, and finding a taxi may be difficult due to the museum’s high location.
