4...Be7 is an old, natural, and logical way of meeting the move 4.Bg5 in the Classical Variation of the French Defence. By breaking the pin, Black renews the pressure on the e4 pawn. The drawback of the move is that it allows White to advance the pawn with 5.e5 when after 5...Nfd7 White's most popular and sharpest (although not the only) reply is the move 6.h4, leading to the so-called Alekhine-Chatard Variation/Gambit, where White gives up a pawn and tries to get sufficient compensation with the help of the kingside pressure.
In this video, we will take a deep look into this variation (as well as some very common deviations) and check some of the most common ideas, variations, and themes that characterize this variation (for both colours).
