On the 62nd anniversary of the March on Washington, led by Martin Luther King, Jr., his son, Martin Luther King III, joined Al Sharpton, who led what’s called the March on Wall Street.
It was organized by Sharpton’s National Action Network to “take the fight to the doorstep of Corporate America as companies continue to abandon their DEI promises.”
“I took roll call,” Sharpton said about his appearance before the crowd of a few thousand on the stage on Whitehall Street, just south of the Wall Street bull statue. Sharpton listed the names of the other mayoral candidates, including incumbent mayor Eric Adams, and noted that they were not in attendance at the march.
He then called out Mamdani’s name as an introduction to the Democratic Party nominee. Mamdani gave a four-minute speech alongside Sharpton, King, and other African American ministers on the stage.
Afterward, the mayoral candidate said that while this was not an official endorsement, “It was an honor” to be on the stage with the faith leaders.
Mamdani has polled least strongly with African Americans during his campaign.
