NEAL SMITH Talks “The Revenge Of Alice Cooper” Album: “It's Both Commercial And Really Terrifying”

After five decades, the original Alice Cooper band has finally reunited to release a full studio album, The Revenge of Alice Cooper. The album was released this past July and serves as the follow-up to their 1973 album, Muscle of Love.

While they have reunited on stage in 2017 for a UK tour, on the live album Live from the Astroturf, and even appeared on various Alice Cooper solo albums, this is the first time fans will hear 14 brand-new tracks of pure diabolical rebellion from Alice Cooper [vocals], Michael Bruce [guitar], Dennis Dunaway [bass], and Neal Smith [drums].

In the spirit of Alice Cooper, it's a dark, theatrical rock album filled with surreal imagery, double entendres, murder, and mayhem. With titles like "Kill the Flies," "Up All Night," "One Night Stand," and "Crap That Gets in the Way of Your Dreams," the album captures a perfect snapshot of their signature sound without missing a step. The Revenge of Alice Cooper offers fans a healthy dose of vintage attitude fused with modern muscle, proving the nightmare is far from over. Correspondent Robert Cavuoto spoke with Neal, who offers an insightful look at their long-awaited reunion album as well as his new KillSmith album, Hard in a Rock Place.

Neal shared how natural it felt for the original members of the Alice Cooper Band to reconnect musically after five decades due to their enduring chemistry and friendship. For this release, Neal revealed that he was hyper-focused on delivering nothing short of exceptional songs with stellar musicianship, to the extent that he wanted them recorded live with all the members, rather than the more modern approach of remote recording. He emphasized that the band's magic happens when they are all together.

Neal proudly explained that he was the originator of the album title and its concept, with its horror theme. He reveals that both the group's dark humor is a trademark blend of horror, sex, and theatricality, something he calls "The yin and yang of Alice Cooper, making it both commercial and really terrifying."

Neal's drumming on this album remains ferocious and powerful as he recounted how he trained daily for a month before recording the 14 songs, equating it to a football player ramping up for the season. Neal also revealed that while touring isn't likely, anyone who wants to see the original band perform together can see them at the Alice's Christmas Pudding benefit this November.

Switching to his solo career, Smith discussed his long-running KillSmith project, which began in 2005. Their latest release, Hard in a Rock Place, marks their fifth album, which is a heavy, guitar-driven record with touches of metal, punk, and some industrial influences inspired by Rammstein, one of his favorite bands.
