Data East on the Sega Genesis

They made some great arcade games in the 1980s and 1990s, but how did their Sega Genesis titles turn out?

Episode Notes:

1. All Genesis games captured from a Mega SG.

2. All arcade games captured via MAME.

3. Hitoshi Sakimoto did a fair bit of the music for these games. Midnight Resistance is still one of my favorite soundtracks on the platform.

4. Many of Data East's arcade games have been released in digital form on modern systems.

5. Many of these Genesis games also had ports to other platforms at the time. An enhanced port of Joe & Mac was released on the SNES, Road Blaster and Thunderstorm were released on the Mega LD, Saturn and PSX, and Chelnov was on just about everything under the sun.

6. Because of the arcade nature of many of these, they are infinitely better when enjoyed with a second player. Dashin Desperadoes is basically unplayable in single player IMO.

7. Data East also had a large footprint on the Sega Saturn library. Let me know in the comments if you'd like to see that video as well.
