Dana 30 CJ Axle Custom Fab High Steer - Budget Build

We’re still toiling away at “Piece of Jeep”. Once we finally piece it all together (pun intended), it will be worth every moment of frustration.

In this video we are tackling the steering challenges that come from having the unique combination of an 84 CJ7 grille, axles, and steering box; a 91 YJ frame (which moves the placement of the steering box and moves the springs outward; and a "free" 4" lift kit in the form of a spring-over conversion! All of these parts would do what they are intended to, but there is no "off-the-shelf" link to make them all work together.

The first step is to fabricate a bracket for the steering box to move it down and back to obtain the clearance necessary for the grille, leaf springs, and frame.

The next step is to fabricate a custom high-steer set up in order to allow the drag link to clear the leaf spring on the passenger side where the drag link attaches to the knuckle.

The goal is to make these modifications while maintaining as much ground clearance, and minimizing bump steer as much as possible.
