Diminished substitutions are a way to enhance harmonic interest and create extra flavour, they occur when a diminished chord is used instead of a dominant chord to create harmonic tension. This substitution takes advantage of the symmetrical nature of the diminished scale and chords, which allows them to function as dominant substitutes.

Each dominant chord can be substituted by a diminished chord and all dominant chord can be substituted between them, go wild!
