URGENT ATTENTION NEEDED AT THE BRIDGEWATER CANAL SINKHOLE MAY CAUSE ANOTHER BREACH! - Jan 19th

Well, I've been down to the Bridgewater canal breach today, in Little Bollington, and... it isn't good!

So we drove an hour from the Llangollen canal breach to the Bridgewater breach, something I will be doing a lot of from now on! The good thing is they're back! The contractors, that is. They were supposed to get the earth dam built here before Christmas, but at no fault of their own, we had some terrible weather, which flooded the site and stopped work. Then Christmas came and New Year's! But now they're back, work can resume on the earth dam to replace the very much ageing Cofferdams put in by Portadam, in January last year! They've been slashed multiple times and have now caused a sinkhole! Thanks to the water not being pumped out between the two dams regularly enough, this then put extra weight and pressure on the second cofferdam, which then collapsed into a void, creating a sinkhole. It's holding for now, as they are constantly pumping water out now, but that's not to mention the water which is seeping through the brickwork between the first and second dams, which is getting gradually worse and could, in the worst case, cause another breach!
