BMW R1200 GS Adventure fuel gauge fix using float type sender

Fuel Sender conversion for 2008 R1200 GS Adventure
This procedure eliminates the existing and flawed, fuel strip sender, replacing it with a float type sender. No calibration appears to be needed. The plug for the new sender fits directly in to the wiring socket of the original sender.

Thank you to du907 for allowing reproduction of the connector plug image. I would advise reading the posts to fully understand what is is you are trying to do before attempting this repair.
You will need -
1. R1200 GSAdventure float type fuel sender that started to be fitted in 2010
Part no is 16148554065 taken from RealOEM page here (searched for 2010 GSA, mine is a 2008) https://www.realoem.com/bmw/enUS/sho....
Note the float is specific to an Adventure tank, other senders probably wont work without much work on the float. This part is plug and play.
2. Various pick type tools to help remove the small wires in the connectors
3. An OBDII scan tool. This connects to your bike through the diagnostic port under the seat. Among other things you can use this tool to reset service intervals and activate/deactivate features on your bike. Cheaper versions are available however other BMW owners have had better success using the green OBDIIlLink MX as shown in the video. A lead to connect the OBD tool to the round diagnostic port on the bike is also required.
4. MOTO SCAN software app for your phone (Android version used).

This connects via Bluetooth to the OBDIIlLink MX. The MOTO SCAN software requires the paid license 'ULTIMATE' version to allow you to make changes (free version just lets you read codes).

Wiring -
The video tells you most of what is needed. You need to access the big two plugs on the back of the bike, directly under the tank. The plugs disconnect by sliding back a securing latch which also lifts the connector from its socket.
You need to get access to the two black and white connectors inside the lower, larger plug.
Ease out the two white, retainer clips and the top of the plug and keep to one side.
You need to push out two plastic plugs in the connector as this is where you are moving wires to.
You identify the connector by using the numbers embossed on the socket. They are not embossed all the way around just at the ends.
In the Black plug - blanking plug 21 needs to come out
In the White plug - blanking plug 37 needs to come out
Now find the wires that need to move -
Pin 34 in the White plug is a Green with Red Tracer
Pin 35 in the White plug is a Brown with Blue Tracer
Remove the wires and transfer them into their new homes.
Pin 34 (White plug) to Pin 21 (Black plug)
Pin 35 (White plug) to Pin 37 (White plug)
Now reassemble!
Programming -
Plug the OBDLink adapter into the bike and pair up to your phone. Turn bikes ignition on.
In the MOTO SCAN app, select your bike (mine is a K25 R1200)
Select Coding.
Under Thermocouples FLS you will have the foliengeber selected which is German for 'shit fuel strip'.
Now select potentiometer. and hit Code to commit the change.

Thats it. The bike should power cycle the computer and the dash should read empty if you have no fuel.
Go to a petrol station and see how much fun you can have putting petrol in!
