Unlike many tourist locations throughout Thailand Thong Pla Phum has managed to avoid being ruined by mass tourism and its destructive outcome. If you are seeking bars, massage shops, over priced Thai food and accommodations, and constantly being harassed for a tour or massage perhaps Thong Pla Phum is not for you. Most foreigners would consider this small town boring lacking what the typical tacky tourist traps have to offer.
If you seek what life is like in a small rural community in Thailand and enjoy being able to find peace and quiet than this town is what you are looking for. Just be aware little English is spoken here nor are there any English menus so be prepared to experience the real Thailand.
