Uma Karuna Thurman (born Uma Karuna Thurman; born April 29, 1970, Boston, USA) is an American actress and former model.

She starred in various films, from romantic comedies and dramas to science fiction films and action films. After her early roles in films such as Dangerous Liaisons, she gained international fame in 1994 by playing a role in Quentin Tarantino's Pulp Fiction, for which she was nominated for Academy Award, Golden Globe and BAFTA awards.

The name, which means "granting bliss," in honor of the Hindu goddess Uma, was given to the future actress by her father.
