In this video, we move on from Kilbride campsite on South Uist and head to Benbecula to visit the North Uist Distillery.
We have questions about our Fiat Ducato satnav. She says some very odd things... Any ideas? Do get in touch! @Fiat
Before our tour begins, we had time to visit the ruins of Nunton Church, the oldest site of Christianity on the island still in use. Regarding the Australian airmen we found in the graveyard, an American built Boeing B17 Flying Fortress with a mixed RAAF and RAF crew was taking off from Benbecula while another aircraft strayed onto the runway. The Pilot of the Flying Fortress managed to climb over the other aircraft but stalled into the sea. All three of the RAAF crew members were killed.
We had a great time touring the North Uist Distillery. Big thanks to Emma our tour guide; we love your passion for the product and the place. @northuistdistillery
We had planned to stop off briefly in Balivanich but it was heaving and the car park was full!! A shame as we'd heard great things about the independent supermarkets there.
We head across another impressive causeway to North Uist. Sadly, we didn't have time to stop at Grimsay. That's for another day. Our first stop is Trinity Temple at Carinish and the Field of Blood, the site of the last battle to be fought in Scotland with bows and arrows!
We stopped at the Hebridean Smokehouse but sadly it's not in this video as there were small children in the shop and music playing. We highly recommend it though!
Finally we headed to Balranald Hebridean Holidays to set up for the evening as the weather turned chilly and rainy. After Neil gives you a brief tour of the site, he prepares tea. Gotta love Chicken Tonight! I don't think I've had it since the days of the brilliant TV advert. All together now, "I feel like Chicken Tonight!". It was surprisingly good! We also introduce you to Jack, our little furry mascot given to us by @PoshcatsCamping . Thanks to everyone who suggested names for the little guy and to @TheSlawsAdventures for accidentally naming Little Ted too!
Does anyone read the description? If you do, say "Slow down!!" in the comments ;)
