John Hiatt - Buffalo River Home (rare solo acoustic version)

I have never been able to find this version of "Buffalo River Home" by John Hiatt on YouTube, so I am going to share it and hope it stays up. For me, this solo acoustic performance packs much more emotional punch than the original (although that one's darn good, too).

EDIT 2024-03-23 Thanks to a comment made about a month ago by ‪@dstp8418‬, I was able to do a better search and finally find the source of this recording and more of its history.

The song was recorded 1993-08-28 at the studios of radio station KBCO in Denver, Colorado (officially licensed to Boulder). This is not a surprising source as KBCO has an "adult album alternative" (AAA) music format similar to what KFOG played.

Sometime later in 1993, A&M Records released this version as a bonus track on a promotional version of the "Buffalo River Home" CD single that was available only to radio stations. There were actually two versions of the radio promo single. Both contained an edited-for-radio version of the studio version and the full album track. However, only one included this bonus live solo acoustic version.

This version did get released to the public in 1993 but only on the European version of the CD single. It had the radio edit of the "Buffalo River Home" studio track but also included a live, solo acoustic version of "Angel" which was also recorded 1993-08-28 at KBCO. A&M also released a version of the CD single only in the Netherlands but it includes the studio track with an acoustic version of "Perfectly Good Guitar".

There is one more source on which this live acoustic version was released and, this time, actually available for purchase in the United States. Sources are vague and vary but, whether in November 1993 or later in 1994, this track led off another charity CD, "KBCO Studio C: Volume IV". That particular release was a benefit for the Colorado AIDS Project and the Boulder County AIDS Project to help prevent the spread of that disease.

Of course, there is no way for me to go back and edit the video to show pictures of these other releases even if I could find ones big enough to come through clearly. I still hope people will find the "Warriors KFOG Jam" fitting as I'm guessing far more people know this version of "Buffalo River Home" from that release as it received national attention due to also having a live Grateful Dead track on it (it's certainly what brought it to MY attention). Due to this, I will also leave most of my original comment intact below, including the copyright which I figure still fits as it is the source from which I made this video.
