100 examples of classic cars powered by BMC's A-Series and A-Plus engines form this photo collection, where both production cars, one-off specials and kit cars will be found.
The A-Series first broke cover in 803cc guise under the bonnet of the Austin A30 in the early 1950s, and later went on to power so many now classic cars from the BMC stable and beyond. Cars such as the Austin A35 & A40 Mk1/2, the Morris Minor Series 2 & 1000, the many different Minis and varied cars based on the ADO16 platform (eg Austin 1100, MG 1300) are just a few of the cars to benefit from being powered by this plucky four-cylinder OHV engine.
I've a soft spot for the A-Series as I learnt to drive in a mid-1960s Mini estate, then took my test in our A40 Mk1 before pressing it into daily duties during my final years at school (regularly being told to move it from the teacher's car park) and later for the work commute. The first car I rode in that exceeded 100 mph was a Cox GTM kit car with a transverse 1275 A-Series engine sat in the back.
