Termonfeckin: Village Life, Past and Present

A documentary film comprising of conversations and images of residents, past & present of the picturesque coastal village called Termonfeckin, located in the wee county of Louth, Ireland's Ancient North East close to the Boyne Valley. The film reflects the historical, cultural, social, farming and sporting heritage of the village which has tripled in size since the late 1990s.

Termonfeckin, named Termann Feichin in Gaeilge after St. Feichin, was founded in the 7th Century, although there's also evidence of Bronze Age settlements.

The film begins with Deirdre Murphy, a local and esteemed archaeologist giving a brief overview of the importance of Termonfeckin in historic terms especially related to Christianity in Ireland.

Paud Leech, a farmer from Beltitchburne discusses the changes he has witnessed in the village and how Macra na Feirme played an important role in his life.

Carla Reynolds tell us how golfing in Seapoint, Termonfeckin gave her wonderful opportunities including working for Team Ireland at the Tokyo Olympics.

Arthur Matthews, writer of Fr. Ted and Toast of London and Tony Clayton-Lea, music and culture journalist reminisce on growing up as teenagers in Termonfeckin and wonder if they hadn't met, would Fr. Ted ever be written!

Ruairi Holohan, a gay activist and UNICEF Youth Advocate tells us why An Taoiseach, Micheál Martin quoted him in the UN.

Nicola Cassidy who is also the presenter, is herself interviewed by the producer, Michelle Hall. Nicola talks about her latest successful novel, The Emerald Spy which is based on the true story of World War II refugees living in Newtown House (now called An Grianan), home to the Irish Country Women's Association.

Michael Delaney moved to Termonfeckin from the UK for a better quality of life and gives reasons why he loves the village.

Geraldine Kirwan discusses opening the Forge Field Farm Shop and how it has gone from strength to strength.

Aidan Greene, one of the founders of St. Feichins Gaelic club shows us the extensive grounds and new community hall set in Beaulieu. He explains how their fundraising campaign "Win A Feckin House" went global.

Interspersed through the interviews are images of Termonfeckin and its residents.

Termonfeckin: Village Life, Past & Present was beautifully shot and directed by Brian Connelly of Bang Bang Visual. The presenter is local author and screenwriter Nicola Cassidy. The film was conceived and produced by Michelle Hall, a local resident, politican and teacher. It was commissioned by Termonfeckin Development Board and supported with funding from the Droichead Arts Centre, Cllr Michelle Hall, Cllr Tom Cunningham and Cllr Declan Power. Thanks to Collette Farrell for her support including screening the film in the Droichead Arts Centre. Thanks to Niamh Donegan in An Grianan, 7th Louth Scouts and to St. Feichins GAA for use of their locations during filming. Most of all thanks to all our residents who were featured and gave freely of their time and thought.
