Do you fancy reading this text? Well, if so, please be informed that the video you're currently watching, exclusive to the YouTube platform, is my new approximation of a 'mix' between 'Electric Counterpoint III Fast' (1989) by Steve Reich and the ambient house song on which it is primarily based, 'Little Fluffy Clouds' (1990) by The Orb.
I absolutely love Little Fluffy Clouds and have to listened to it since I first heard it in the early/mid-90's. I fell in love with the strange chord sequence, effectively just a I major to IV minor, and the trippy vocals and imagery. I later discovered the Steve Reich piece and enjoyed that too - I like the layering of melody loops which create a rich harmonic texture, with the different sections fading in and out of the overall mix as time moves on.
Interestingly, the chord qualities are completely different between Electric Counterpoint and Little Fluffy Clouds. Of course, Little Fluffy Clouds is sped up and in 4/4, whereas Electric Counterpoint is more sedate and in something like 6/4. But in Electric Counterpoint the chords change from Em to Cm (sort of a I minor to VI minor, if you will). The Orb changed the first chord from minor to its relative major, so my approximation changes the Em to G major. The loop then moves to G major to C minor (the classic I major to IV minor loop) and it constructed in 4/4.
Anyway, what I've done here is replicate a mix from the sampled to the sampler version and have replicated parts of the house tune using some beats, loops and synths from GarageBand. It took me bloody ages. Then I've replicated the vocal samples that The Orb used, including the famous sample of the Rickie Lee Jones interview. Everything is replicated by me so I can't get sued. Well, I hope I don't get sued anyway. Please don't sue me. This channel is not commercial, just for funs.
Thanks for watching and, only if you want to, consider subscribing.
Peace be the journey.

I don't claim any copyright or anything and realise that I'm being a bit naughty for playing someone else's tune on my channel but let me tell you that (i) I do this purely for fun and educational purposes, (ii) I don't make any money from this channel, and (iii) YouTube has a clever way of identifying copy-written music and ensuring that any advertising revenues go straight to the copyright owner, not me. So, if anything, I'm helping out the artist.

I don’t make a penny from this channel (nor should I really, as I’m playing covers of other artists’ music without their permission!) but if you want to support me and keep me motivated to produce more approximations, please check out my original music on Bandcamp - APRX music. I made 5 solo albums when I was younger - poppy rock stuff. If you love what you hear, do feel free to purchase one of my albums for whatever price you wish! I thank you.
