i didn’t even realize it was morning, or that you’d already gotten up from bed, not until you come back into the room and try to wake me.
you let me sleep in a little, which was sweet of you, but honestly, it wasn’t nearly enough.
i’m still half-asleep, barely opening my eyes as you set a glass of water down on the nightstand, probably hoping i’ll sit up and drink it. instead, i reach for you.
i pull you back into bed, into my arms, and hold you there like i have no intention of letting you leave again.
i’m not ready to get up yet. just give me five more minutes, sweetheart. then I promise we’ll get up.
