Grizzly bear. Explanation after a close encounter with a grizzly up in the Alaska range

hiking near Castner glacier off the Richardson hwy in the Alaska range i had a encounter with a male grizzly. I didn't have my camera going and this is me discussing what happened and showing the area while trying to get a photo of him. never seen him again.
I was walking along the melt water creek of the glacier when I stepped up onto the game trail on the edge of the forest. I caught a blur from the corner of my eye, then turned to see a male grizzly standing on his hind legs about 9' tall and only 15' from me. I jumped backwards off the 6' bank to the creek edge to gain some space, standing there frozen in fear and losing sight of him I went over in my head what I should do. I yelled at him to go on a few times and then a few minutes later I continued down stream toward the road 3 miles away. about 300 yards later standing on the creek edge under a 40' tall bank a few rocks tumbled down. As I look up the bear is above me looking down at me. we stared at eachother for a few minutes and he seemed to be thinking about coming down to me so I took my .44 mag and shot a round into the sky scaring him off.

Alaska is full of dangerous situations and many predators looking for a meal.
you should never do this in Alaska until you've been here a while and learn the land or you may not come home.
