Spare a thought for the passengers on yesterday's Emirates flight EK420 from Dubai to Perth.
The first ten hours of the flight between Dubai and Western Australia proceeded without incident. Then strong winds at Perth International Airport caused chaos for all aircraft trying to land. At around 5.30 pm on Friday 4 April the Emirates A380 attempted to land twice but the wind was just too strong. So the pilot decided to divert to Melbourne, some 3,000 kilometers away. That added three and a half hours to the flight.
The A380 had enough fuel onboard to get all the way to Melbourne. But look on the bright side. At least the passengers didn't have to divert to Adelaide. That would have sucked.
