Parliament will hold an unusual Saturday session to pass an emergency law aimed at preventing the closure of British Steel’s Scunthorpe plant.
The proposed legislation would give the government powers to take control of the site, currently owned by Chinese firm Jingye, which has said its blast furnaces are not financially viable.
Keir Starmer supports the move, suggesting it could lead to full nationalisation in the future. The Prime Minister has said all options remain open as talks continue to keep production going.
