In this video Wild Journey Films focuses on two migratory swans that share the state of Wisconsin during the spring and fall migrations. For many trumpeter swans, the largest waterfowl species native to North America, Wisconsin is their spring migration destination where they will nest and raise their new cygnets. Thanks to a very successful reintroduction program started in the late 1900's, trumpeter swans once again grace the wetlands throughout the Midwest after being extirpated in the late 1800's. Tundra swans overwintering on the east coast and Chesapeake Bay area, pass through Wisconsin in much larger numbers that the trumpeters, filling some wetlands while stopping over to feed and rest before pushing on to the far north where they will nest on the vast tundra.
