Demonstration of building a painting in three layers (wash, impasto, and dry brush). I began by drawing some expressive lines with Sharpie marker on canvas board. Then I applied a transparent wash of Indian Yellow High Flow Acrylic. After the wash dried, I broke my composition design into thirds with my intention of leaving 1/3rd of the wash lay at the top showing. Next, I mixed gradations of Cobalt Teal and Manganese Blue and applied thick impasto globs of paint using an angled palette knife. I allowed this layer to dry and added more thick layers of paint with a flat brush and dry brushed s red paint over areas with texture and dimension. I completed my study by introducing small applications of Pyrole Red and Cadmium Orange with a small round brush. I added a second wash of Indian Yellow to the top portion of my painting to add intensity.
