How Scientific Are Social Sciences and Humanities?

Social sciences, including my own discipline of economics, and humanities are sometimes said not to conform to the high scientific standards of pure sciences such as physics or chemistry. In this episode I discuss whether such statements are grounded in reality.

I also argue that the subject matter of social sciences and humanities is actually much more complex than that of, say, physics, which makes our research particularly difficult. Above all I argue for formalization, mathematization, empiricism, and falsifiability of our theories, whether in social sciences or elsewhere.
