Pastors Richard and Vanessa adore their pit mix, Coco — but her uncontrollable excitement has turned dangerous, especially around their 7-year-old daughter, Serena. Vanessa, overwhelmed and uncertain, has stepped back, while Richard’s frustration grows stronger each day. That emotional imbalance feeds Coco’s anxious, excited energy — and every affectionate “good girl” in the wrong moment only reinforces her chaos.

Meanwhile in San Pedro, Marla, a longshoreman, is being worn down by Panini, her miniature dachshund whose nonstop barking has literally made her sick. But Panini isn’t being “bad” — she’s guarding. Marla’s stress at home created a leadership void, and Panini filled it.

With structure and calm presence, Marla learns to claim her space, project confidence, and stop rewarding anxious behavior. As she changes, Panini releases her tension and finally rests — no longer burdened by the need to protect.

By the end, both families discover the same truth:
When humans change their energy and lead with calm, dogs stop acting out.
