What a busy few days we’ve had this week, as we have FINALLY started the renovation on the disused and abandoned Victorian Summer Kitchen that was hidden amongst trees and undergrowth just metres from the back door of our farmhouse garden in Staffordshire, England.
This room hasn’t been used or accessed properly since the early 90’s.
Step One, this video, is clearing decades of rubbish from inside the building and tackling removing the vines from the roof. It was a laborious task, sadly nothing of value was found.
The roof was a huge challenge but Duncan worked really well in his attempt to clear it. I even make a rash decisions to light a small fire to test the chimney. Was it a success or did I smoke the building out?
We have so many plans for this space but need help on how best to tackle a refurbishment of the cast iron window and the wash copper above the stove. Do you have any tips on how to bring those back to life, or at least functionality in the case of the window? I’d be grateful of any suggestions.
This is a truly exciting project that is going to prove to be the central hub of the vegetable garden in due course. I’m hoping to be able to store vegetables in it, such as beetroot, onions etc,
What would you do to this space if it was in your garden?
