Resident Evil: Afterlife is a 2010 action horror film written and directed by Paul W. S. Anderson. It is the fourth installment in the Resident Evil film series, which is loosely based on the video game series of the same name. This film is the second in the series directed by Anderson, following the first Resident Evil film. A direct sequel to Resident Evil: Extinction (2007), it is also the first in the series to be shot in 3D. The movie stars Milla Jovovich, Ali Larter, Kim Coates, Shawn Roberts, Spencer Locke, Boris Kodjoe, and Wentworth Miller.

The story follows Alice as she searches for and rescues the remaining survivors in Los Angeles after the T-virus outbreak. Together, they team up against Albert Wesker, the head of the Umbrella Corporation. The film introduces Chris Redfield, a primary character from the video games, to the movie franchise for the first time. Other returning characters include Claire Redfield, Chris's sister who has lost her memory; Albert Wesker, the main antagonist; and Jill Valentine, who makes a cameo appearance.

In May 2005, producers hinted at a possible sequel to Extinction, which led to the development of Afterlife. With Extinction's success at the box office in 2007, Afterlife began development in June 2008, and Anderson completed the script in December. The film incorporated elements from the video game Resident Evil 5 (2009), including mind control devices and Chris's confrontation with Wesker. Filming took place in Toronto from September to December 2009 using the 3D Fusion Camera System.

Released on September 10, 2010, Resident Evil: Afterlife received generally negative reviews. However, it grossed $60 million in the United States and Canada, matching its estimated budget, and earned $240 million in other markets, surpassing the previous film's overseas total within two weeks. With a worldwide total of $300 million, it became the second highest-grossing film in the series. The movie was released on DVD, Blu-ray, and Blu-ray 3D on December 28, 2010, in the United States. A fifth film, Resident Evil: Retribution, followed in 2012.
