This little known masterpiece came out in 1986 in one of Dylan's least popular albums, "Knocked out loaded." It was based on the old Woody Guthrie son "Danville Girl." Dylan started working on it in 1984 originally calling it "New Danville Girl."
He decided not to put it on the 1985 album "Empire Burlesque," but instead reworked the song with the help of playwright and actor Sam Shepherd, eventually changing the name.
