Well this is the second part of replacing the deck and stringers. The boat was built in 1991,and after a lot of years of commercial fishing, the deck and stringers need replacing. After cutting out the floor, the next job is grinding back the old flowcoat (gelcoat with added wax), as you cant fibreglass on old flowcoat due to the wax addition. After grinding the flowcoat back, I found several old deck repairs, which must have been done over 20 years ago, as my father has owned the boat for 20 years, and he didnt repair it. Well some were sound, others were glass that had been laid on flow coat, and some had delaminated. I assume it was repaired as a rush job, as only half the overlap had came away. I assume the glass was still damp when the new glass was added, so came apart over time. The hull has been drying out for over 3 weeks in a dry and warm lean-to, so we shouldnt suffer from this again.
