Budd–Chiari Syndrome
– Hepatic vein thrombosis → hepatic congestion
– Causes: hypercoagulable states (Polycythemia vera, pregnancy, OCPs), myeloproliferative disorders

– Diagnosis: Doppler ultrasound
– Treatment: anticoagulation, TIPS, liver transplant (severe)
Portal Vein Thrombosis (PVT)
– Obstruction of portal vein → portal hypertension WITHOUT liver failure
– Causes: cirrhosis, malignancy, hypercoagulability, abdominal infections
– Symptoms: splenomegaly, varices, abdominal pain
– Diagnosis: Doppler ultrasound / CT
– Treatment: anticoagulation, manage varices, treat underlying cause
