Earlier this year, we had the honour of paying a visit to photographer Ma’ Ruth Motau. She welcomed our camera into the basement space where she stores much of her archival material. As we filmed, she walked us through her body of work, her photographic ethics, and her wishes for how her archival materials should be preserved and engaged with.
From 21 to 23 August, Ruth Motau and Zanele Muholi will be co-facilitating the second Black Women in Photography Conference. Hosted at the Market Photo Workshop, the conference invites Black women photographers to gather, share, and reshape the narrative of photography, one frame at a time. This year, the conference returns with a powerful call for reflection, unity, and visibility.
