Jesus promised his anxious disciples the Holy Spirit as an advocate who would come alongside them, teach them, and remind them of his teachings. This advocate serves as both God's voice to us and an invitation for us to speak up for others. On Memorial Day weekend, we're reminded of Jesus' words about the greatest love being to lay down one's life for friends. The Holy Spirit empowers us to honor sacrifices not just by remembering, but by allowing their stories to shape our lives and by advocating for those who cannot speak for themselves. The peace Jesus offers differs from the world's temporary peace—it's enduring, fierce, and sends us out to engage with the world.
