The Verbio biorefinery in India`s Punjab region is a true asset to the area: the plant processes straw that would otherwise be burned in surrounding fields. Our innovative technology provides a practical solution to stop stubble burning, which harms both the climate and public health. Instead, Verbio produces climate-friendly and cost-effective compressed biogas (CBG) from agricultural residues. At the same time, a valuable humus fertilizer is generated, helping to improve soil quality.
India has recognized both the enormous potential of unused biomass and the serious consequences of field burning. Regionally produced biomethane not only protects the climate, but also reduces reliance on volatile global fossil fuel markets. Supporting this transition, the Indian government’s agenda emphasizes creating value and jobs in rural areas, cutting oil and natural gas dependence, and promoting sustainable growth.
