Backstory:
It's been a year or two since the Salvatore brothers came to Mystic Falls.

The Salvatore brothers thought the danger had passed, Klaus was dead, or so they thought. Katherine had sort of become a very useful ally, something that surprised even her. Elena saved her life when Klaus attacked so in return Katherine vows to protect her

When the time came to move on Katherine was surprised to find she didnt want to leave but knew she had to so she did, which was when Stefan realized he couldn't live without her any longer.

Tyler and Caroline fell completely in love after everything they went through together, Matt tried but couldn't break them up and eventually he left Mystic Falls , the only thing that threatened their relationship was when Tyler found out what really happened to Mason but when he realized the kind of person Mason was knew Mason deserved what he got

Caroline and Damon developed a very sibling like relationship, when she first realized she loved tyler she went to him and strangely enough Damon told her to follow her heart (but told Tyler that if he hurt her, Damon would kill him)

Elena decided she wanted to be single and never got back together with stefan, after seeing the way he was with Katherine she knew that was the right choice. She knows deep inside she has feelings for Damon but doesn't acknowledge them, and Damon doesn't pressure her because he thinks she doesn't like him in that way. Damon is still very much in love with her and their friendship is back to where it once was.

Alaric & Jenna got married and she was brought into the secret. Jeremy decided to stay single since all girls he dated died. That is until he meets Alice the new girl in town who is a witch staying with the Salvatore brothers.

In the meantime Bonnie distanced herself from the group and started working on her strengthening her magic and over time her grudge on Damon and vampires was growing stronger

the Vampire they killed was not Klaus but one of his followers/lackeys who was glamoured to look like Klaus who sent him to observe how they acted

He captures Damon using vervain and calls Elena to tell her, she can't say anything because Klaus threatened to kill Damon permanently, she has to come alone so she does. She offers herself in exchange for Damon he agrees and Damon goes free.

Damon tells the rest what happened and they prepare to attack, Alice gets a flash of where Elena is being held and tells the rest. They realize they are not enough and they need to call for backup, they call Isobel and Elijah.

They agree that Caroline is going to be the one to go look for Elena with the help of Tyler while the rest fight Klaus and his minions

The fight is here, everyone is fighting no one is safe, Damon is fighting with Klaus when Bonnie shows up beside him he thinks she is going to help him but realizes she is on the other side. Damon realizes that Bonnie was the one that set him up to get captured. Bonnie shoots him with wooden vervain bullets and then leaves him there.

Klaus starts to taunt him and Damon takes the little amount of strength he has left to drive a stake into his heart then collapses, Alaric sees this and finishes him up. The battle ends and Elena notices Damon and runs to him.

He is barely concious and in bad shape, when he sees her he tells her he loves her. Elena realizing he might die finally tells him she loves him too. Damon needs blood so she grabs a glass from the floor and cuts herself to give him blood. When they do the body count they realize Bonnie and Isobel got killed and Alaric tells them Bonnie was working for the other side.

Month Later

The things that happened brought them all closer, Elena convinced Damon to change her so he did. They could relax for the first time in years because nothing was coming after them..
