Which state to cover next?
Karnataka came into existence on November 1, 1956, originally known as 'Mysore State.' However, its name was changed to Karnataka in 1973.
This is a diverse state with 13 different languages spoken. Kannada is the most common, but you'll also hear Tulu, Konkani, Kodava, and Beary among others.
It is the LARGEST coffee exporter in the country.
In 2001, Karnataka introduced ITS FIRST COMMERCIAL RADIO STATION, Radio City 91.1 FM, starting in Bangalore. Now, it has expanded to more than 50 channels across the state.
GOMATESHWARA STATUE is a 58-foot-tall monolith, which means it's carved from a single piece of stone. Located in Shravanabelagola, 144 km from Bangalore, it's the world's largest monolithic statue.
The Gersoppa Falls, also known as the ‘Jog Falls’ (ranks as the second-highest plunge waterfall in India) belongs to Karnataka.
Karnataka has won the most Jnanpith literary awards with a total of eight recipients from the state.
Mysore is famous for silk, sandalwood, and spices. But it's also home to India's biggest walk-through aviary at Karanji Lake.
In Karnataka, there's a special place in Bengeri, Hubli, that's been making and supplying the Indian Flag since 1957.
The Oriental Library in Karnataka holds many manuscripts in different languages. But what stands out are the 50,000 palm-leaf manuscripts.
