A powerful film celebrating 130 years of dedication by the United Clyde Angling Protective Association to protect and restore the River Clyde. From miners and steelworkers to modern volunteers, this is the story of how a community built one of Scotland’s greatest wild trout rivers.
A Way of Life is a tribute to the remarkable history, passion, and perseverance of the United Clyde Angling Protective Association (UCAPA) and the communities who shaped the River Clyde for more than 130 years.
This new film brings together historic footage, modern storytelling, and a voiceover that honours the men and women whose dedication transformed the Clyde from an industrially damaged river into one of Scotland’s finest wild trout fisheries.
Told through scenes of volunteers tackling up at Mauldslie Bridge, hatchery work in Rigside, family teams transferring fry to Abington, and anglers gathering to release young trout back into the river, the film celebrates a heritage built by miners, steelworkers, postmen, riverkeepers, and ordinary working people who fought for the Clyde’s future.
From the early efforts of William Robertson and Matthew McKendrick in the 1800s, to the thriving community of directors and volunteers today, the message remains unchanged:
Fish fair, free, and spare the wee anes.
This is more than fishing.
It is stewardship.
It is community.
It is a way of life.
