Watercolour Tutorial – Spring Meadow

Hake Brush
This is a goat haired brush that has been used for centuries in both China and Japan. It is very versatile and can be used to apply large washes of pigment and to create loose textured areas; a great for loose wet into wet watercolours. The ones I use are Pro Arte Ron Ranson branded brushes. I find these shed hairs far less than cheaper alternatives. It’s useful to have these in a range of sizes and they can be purchased as a set of 4, please see link below:

Goat Haired Calligraphy Brush

Paint
I use a variety of paint brands including Daniel Smith and Windsor & Newton in both the Cotman and Artist’s range. The Cotman colours are very economic to purchase and are used by both students and professional artists including Sophie Knight RWS. Colours used Cotman Burnt Sienna, Raw Sienna and Gamboge Hue. Paper Fabriano Artistico The paper used for this demonstration was Fabriano Artistico EW 140lb NOT. This is a 100% cotton rag paper with a beautiful bright white surface that aids the creation of vibrant translucent watercolours. https://www.jacksonsart.com/search/?q...
