ALBERT LEE WEEK - Song 1 of 6 - 'I'm Comin' Home'.

11.05am, live on BBC Radio 2 on Sunday, 28 March 2010.

We had some truly amazing and unforgettable moments with over 70 fantastic music guests throughout the whole of 2010 whilst working with Sir Terry Wogan on his live BBC Radio 2 show ‘Weekend Wogan’.

But for me personally, there was one week, one special guest, one music legend that stands out as the absolute highlight of the entire year… and that was the week that guitarist Albert Lee came to the BBC Radio Theatre in London, rehearsed with us on the Saturday morning and then the day after, on Sunday, 28 March 2010, joined my band for the live broadcast, playing for my three songs and then stepped up to do his three featured songs... and blew the BBC listeners and live audience away!

Albert’s performance that week culminated in and inspired the only spontaneous standing ovation of the whole year, coming at the end of his blistering performance of 'Country Boy'... which you can search for.

I’m excited about sharing with you the six live music performances from this particular show.

First up… to kick off the show... an old rock and roll classic… ‘I’m Comin’ Home’… a song I had performed with Albert during my three years as the piano player in his band, Albert Lee and Hogan‘s Heroes, from 2006 to 2009. And the only reason that I chose to leave the band was because I had been offered this job as the musical director and featured artist on ‘Weekend Wogan’. I just would never have had the time to have done both.

Back when I joined the band, the chaps asked if I would like to perform and be featured on two songs in the set. One of the songs I chose was ‘I’m Comin’ Home’, which I had learned from Elvis. As it turned out, I had chosen one of Albert‘s favourite songs and one that he had thought about doing in his set himself. He was gracious enough to let me have it because I suggested it first.

After one particular performance he announced to the audience “Neapolitan Rock And Roll... it doesn’t come any better”. That’ll do for me! 🇮🇹 🎵😁
