To the casual fan and perhaps even to some readers, when the word, 'fellowship' is used in a sentence, it immediately conjures images of a heroic band of adventures. Righteous even. However Tolkien was a writer of nuance, and the Gaurwaith during the dark years of the First Age embodied this principle. Being much like the classic Fellowship of the Ring in many ways, but also in more ways drastically different. And can make one reconsider how they define the term after reading their story.
