Kashika Shinden Jikishinkage Ryū from the Kashima shrine is also called “Kashima no Tachi”. It is the original core that gave birth to more than 30 other schools over time.
That school is 500 years old and has its origins in the ancient religious and martial ceremonies. Besides Kenjutsu, that school also teaches the spear, hand-to-hand combat and horseback archery. That makes it a Sōgōbujutsu, a syncretic martial art.
It was founded at the end of the 15th century by Bizen-no-Kami Naokatsu (1467-1524), mostly influenced by Shinkage-ryū and Kage-ryū
