KONKOMBA YOUTH ASSOCIATION (KOYA) ANNOUNCES ITS 48th ANNUAL
NATIONAL CONVENTION IN SABOBA, NORTHERN GHANA, CELEBRATING
KONKOMBA CULTURAL IDENTITY. Saboba 2025
The Konkomba Youth Association (KOYA) is pleased to announce the 48th Annual National
Convention, scheduled to take place from the 9th to the 12th of April 2025 in Saboba, Northern
Ghana. This year’s convention is themed "Honoring Our Ancestors, Inspiring the Next
Generation: The Future of Konkomba Cultural Identity."
As a community-driven organization committed to preserving and promoting the rich cultural
heritage of the Konkomba people, KOYA recognizes the significance of our history in shaping our
future. This convention will serve as a vital platform to honor the legacy of our ancestors while
empowering the younger generation to embrace, celebrate, and sustain Konkomba traditions in an
evolving world.
The 48th Annual National Convention will feature a variety of engaging activities, including
keynote addresses, panel discussions, and interactive workshops. Esteemed speakers, cultural
historians, traditional leaders, and youth advocates will lead discussions on topics such as:
• The Role of Oral Traditions in Preserving Konkomba History
• Traditional Governance and Its Relevance in Contemporary Society
• The Influence of Ancestral Wisdom on Modern Leadership
• Language Preservation and Indigenous Knowledge Systems
• The Role of Youth in Safeguarding Konkomba Cultural Identity
Through these discussions, KOYA aims to foster a renewed appreciation for our ancestral values
and cultural practices while exploring innovative ways to integrate them into modern society. The
event will also include cultural performances, traditional drumming and dance and storytelling
sessions, providing a holistic experience of our vibrant heritage.
Saboba, a town deeply rooted in Konkomba history, is once again the perfect setting for this year’s
convention. Attendees will have the opportunity to engage with local communities, witness
traditional ceremonies, and participate in activities that strengthen their connection to their roots.
In accordance with Article 61:3 of the KOYA Constitution, the National Electoral College will
conduct elections during the convention to elect new executives to steer the affairs of KOYA for
the next two years. The positions open for contest include:
✓ President
✓ General Secretary
✓ Organizing Secretary
✓ Women Commissioner
✓ Financial Secretary
✓ Treasurer
As outlined in Article 18:1 of the KOYA Constitution, there shall be no deputies for the offices of
the Financial Secretary and the Treasurer, as these two positions are expected to work
collaboratively. Deputies for all other offices shall be appointed and presented to the General
Assembly before elections, per Article 47 of the KOYA Constitution.
KOYA encourages all eligible members to participate actively by running for office or nominating
others. Our continued growth and success as an association depend on collective effort and shared
leadership. In the coming weeks, the KOYA Electoral Committee will roll out the nomination and
filling procedure for the 2025 KOYA National Elections.
During the convention, newly elected executives of Local Branches will be sworn in, and new
Local Branches will be inaugurated to expand KOYA’s reach across the country.
KOYA extends an open invitation to individuals, organizations, cultural enthusiasts, and
development partners who share a passion for heritage preservation and community empowerment
to participate in this landmark event. Further details on registration, program schedules,
