Quick comparison between an EMG 60a and 85 in the neck position of my ESP LTD Evertune MH-1000
some audio sync problems unfortunately during the render, can't seem to fix it, tried to play similar stuff on both to give an idea , @9v
EMG 60a 0:00
EMG 85 4:58
Guitar into DAW
Clean sounds are BIAS FX for a boost pedal into Scuffham 2 'american clean' preset
Distortion is the Mercuriall Spark plugin - AFD100 with a Tube Screamer in front
bit of Valhalla Plate reverb on both
Same amp settings for both pickups and used same set of strings back to back, the only variable is perhaps the pickup height of the 85, which was about the same as where the 60a was but didn't make any exact measurements
2mm delrin500 pick
46-9 Elixir strings
E standard tuning
i think someone in a forum described them best as the EMG 85 being more piano like and the 60a more like a flute
to my ears and from playing the 60a seems to have a bit less output, more treble, hi mids, less bass/low mids in there, the 85 has more output, more bass/low mids and warmer sounding overall, i find the 85 a better match for me in this guitar, i'm using an 85 in the bridge position as well
cool pickups in any case
