Digital Art Painting - Fantasy Art - How To Paint A Dragon - Timelapse

How to paint a digital art painting of a dragon. This fantasy art timelapse focusses on painting a quick study of a dragon head starting from a rough drawing. I had no particular design in mind, instead letting the ideas develop organically into the finished dragon artwork.

The painting quickly became a study in dragon scales, spikes and horns, with the aim to capture a three-dimensional effect quickly. Painting the majority of the dragon head dark, created contrast versus the glowing fire light, drawing focus to the face despite the abundance of surrounding details. In addition, all the spikes point back toward the eye, to subtly reinforce this as a focal point.

Created in Adobe Photoshop with my custom collection of digital art brushes; made to immitate the texture and charm found in traditional artwork.
