This video is about update on an important project of Gujranwala. The design of Gujranwala metro bus and route is finalized. Route allignment will be explained in this video. SRT Electric Buses will be run on this route.
The Punjab transport department has decided to extend the Gujranwala metro bus route up to Gakhar Mandi town from Aimenabad Mor as some 1,009 buses would be provided for the metro bus main route as well as the feeder routes.
Moreover, the department has recommended further extension in the route up to Kamoke town for which the respective authorities have been directed to prepare the feasibility report.
Secretary (transport) Imran Sikandar Baloch, Gujranwala Commissioner Naveed Haider Sheerazi, Deputy Commissioner Naveed Ahmed, City Police Officer (CPO) Ayaz Saleem and others were also present at the meeting.
He said as Gujranwala had been one of the big urban centres of Punjab and was known for being an industrial and business hub, Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz had approved the launching of metro bus service by keeping in view the requirements of its population.
He said at least four depots for the parking of these buses would be built along GT road at different locations and the sites had already been selected.
He said the proposal for the establishment of underground bus stations along the route was also under consideration whereas the width of GT road would also be enhanced [where required] as well as flyovers might also be constructed [at several locations].
Secretary Imran Sikandar said the CM had also directed the department to ply the feeder buses between Lahore and Gujranwala whereas the project of metro bus service might be completed within the next one year.
The meeting asked the authorities concerned to complete whatever respective tasks they had been given so far for the launching of the project as an uninterrupted power supply would also be ensured for the metro bus route.
This was stated by Punjab Transport Minister Bilal Akbar while chairing an official meeting to review the preparations for the launch of metro bus route in Gujranwala on Thursday.
The Federal government departments have been tasked to shift utility services along the route of Signal-Free Corridor on GT Road in Gujranwala city.
The project of remodeling of the old GT road to convert it into a signal-free corridor has recently been launched by Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz for the smooth flow of traffic.
A meeting to review the so far progress on the execution of the project was held with Gujranwala Commissioner Naveed Haider Sheerazi in the chair whereas Gujranwala Deputy Commissioner Naveed Ahmed, ruling PML-N lawmakers and officials of various federal and provincial governments were also among the participants of meeting on Monday.
The 13kms long Old GT Road right from Aziz Cross flyover at Pindi Bypass to Chan Da Qila is being converted into a signal-free corridor at the cost of Rs 5billion, an official of the district administration told Dawn.
He said the widening and re-carpeting of road, reduction in the number of U-turns, developing greenbelt on both sides of the road and other measures for the city beautification had been part of the project plan.
However, he said, in case of possible launch of echo-friendly rapid bus transport service or a metro bus system for Gujranwala, the corridor project might face some changes.
At the same time, he said, the federal departments had been told by the authorities of local administration to take practical steps for the shifting of their services such as electric poles, gas pipelines and other such things before the start of construction work which should not be disturbed.
It is learnt that the number of U-turns along the GT Road may be reduced to nine, with six between flyover to Chan Da Qila and three between city flyover to Pindi bypass flyover. Official sources said the secretary communication and works department was also due in Gujranwala in the current week to review the project as well as possibilities for any change in the design in the wake of Punjab government’s plan to launch the bus service in the city.
