Solo bivvy night near a 2,200-metre summit, hiking through strong winds, shifting clouds, and one of the best sunsets I’ve ever seen. This is a raw, minimal mountain night — simple gear, wild weather, and a peaceful moment above the clouds.
A few hours of hiking took me from 800 metres to the summit, with clouds drifting above, below, and sometimes right across the trail.
I slept in my MSR Pro Bivvy, on a Thermarest NeoAir Xtherm, with a custom down sleeping bag. Dinner was simple, but the sunset wasn’t — deep red light cutting through grey air across the ridge.
I slept well, but woke up inside a cloud, with wet snow soaking my gear and pushing me to descend quickly.
The whole hike felt both challenging and intense, yet peaceful and inspiring in its own quiet way.
If you enjoy minimal, raw mountain experiences, I hope this video brings you closer to them.
