This movie shows a physics-based computer simulation of the Storegga (Norway) landslide and mega-tsunami that occurred 8,200 years ago. The landslide volume was nearly 4000 cubic km, 2000 times that of the 1980 Mt. St. Helens collapse. The tsunami hit nearly shores of Norway, Iceland and the United Kingdom with waves as high as 40 m. A repeat of an event like this today would cause widespread havoc to oil operations and coastal populations.
