On September 11, 1905, Mark Requa started building the Nevada Northern Railway. It began as a vital link to the copper industry that helped build Nevada. Today, 120 years later, the railway still stands proudly in Ely, not as a relic, but as a living, breathing museum. Every train that departs the East Ely Depot carries with it not just passengers, but the story of an industry, a community, and the resilience of the American West.
Over the course of the next twelve months, we will be celebrating and sharing the story of Mark Requa, the building of the railroad and the impact that it has on the community.
