A lot of us, I think, obsessed about the font that we use. We spend so much time coding that we want something that's super comfortable. And I have my own preferences. So for me, I like something that is a little bit thinner and that has a very large X height....the height of the text.
I prefer that and I prefer a thinner font because it fits more. And I'm definitely doing code demos all the time. So I want a lot of stuff on screen. But I like a font that looks bigger when it's at a small size.
My choice for coding it JetBrains Mono. it's a free font with ligatures, a thin font with a large x-height and very distinct characters, which makes it less confusing between the letter L and a 1 or an O and a 0. Those differences can make a big difference in your code.
Not everybody loves ligatures, but they can be pretty useful for reading your code. For example when you do arrow functions, it gives you a longer arrow with a greater than sign. Not everyone will be into ligatures and I resisted them for the longest time, but I started using it and I found it easier to read some of my code with the ligatures.
I would love to hear what you code with what your favorite fonts is.
