The Porsche 911 was a car built on evolution rather than evolution, with slight changes made over the course of 35 years. 1989 was the final year of the car known as the “G-Body” 911, and marked the end of the evolution, before the revolutionary 964 generation debuted later in the year. For that reason, the 1989 911 Carrera holds a special place in Porsche enthusiast’s hearts and when you also consider it represents perhaps the best mix of classic dynamics with modern usability, it is no surprise it has become quite a sought-after classic. This 1989 911 Carrera Coupe shows just 101,941 miles and has been under the care of just four owners from new.
Although still finished in its original shade of Black, this Carrera was professionally wrapped in Dark Green which really makes it stand out among the other classic air-cooled Porsches. This attractive non-metallic shade is paired with a set of 16-inch Fuchs 5-spoke wheels with bronze powder coated centers that further offset the look of the car. Up front, a more modern set of headlights offer superior light projection and give a slightly updated look to the overall car. Additionally, paint protection film has been installed on the front end of the car to keep it looking good for a long time. Although these updates all make this 911 pop, if you desire changing it back to its original black exterior, that could also be done without too much issue.
On the interior, tan leather covers the front and rear seats, which is paired with a tan carpet. Slide behind the 4-spoke steering wheel and you are met by Porsche’s classic 5-gauge layout with a large central tachometer, two multi-gauges for oil temperature and pressure and fuel level off to the left, and a 160 mph speedometer and analog clock to the right. In the center console sits a modern LCD head unit which allows for Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectability and below that, air conditioning controls for the recently R134 converted system.
Sitting out back is one of Porsche’s most dependable engines - the 3.2-liter air cooled flat-6, which produces 214 horsepower and 195 lb-ft of torque. This engine was treated to a 60,000 mile service at Squire’s Autowerke in March which included new belts, spark plugs, filters and a valve adjustment. Power is then sent through Porsche’s legendary G50 5-speed manual gearbox to the rear wheels.
The G-Body 911 is one of the most beloved cars in the world of Porsche and is a classic that you could actually use on a daily basis. Offering the perfect combination of fun, practical and dependable, 1989 represented the final year of this bodystyle and was really the end of the lineage of what many consider to be the “classic” 911. Offered with some very appealing upgrades and a fresh engine service, this 911 will get looks everywhere you go and is ready to be enjoyed as soon as you drive it out of the showroom!
